Welcome to my professional portfolio. Since being hired at Salt Lake Community College, I have had the unique opportunity to partner, collaborate, and reach out to amazing professionals from the State of Utah and from around the country. I am honored and feel privileged to be where I am today and hope to demonstrate examples of my work through my portfolio.
I firmly believe in the importance of geographic education because it gives people a "sense of place" and belonging in our complex and ever-changing world. We all have our narratives, and world views and the world needs individuals and groups who understand our physical and cultural environments and who are committed to being "stewards of the planet." Geographic and geospatial literacy has been the central theme of my professional life. To learn more about me, read my short bibliography. "Every atom in your body came from a star that exploded. Moreover, the atoms in your left hand probably came from a different star than your right hand. It is the most poetic thing I know about physics: You are all stardust. You could not be here if stars had not exploded, because the elements - the carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, iron, all the things that matter for evolution and life - were not created at the beginning of time. They were created in the nuclear furnaces of stars, and the only way for them to get into your body is if those stars were kind enough to explode. So, forget Jesus. The stars died so that you could be here today." - A Universe From Nothing by Lawrence Krauss, AAI 2009
